This Week's Update

For those of you that follow these tales of my crazy schedule (and thank you for doing so), it's been a wild week. So, let's go crazy.

Tuesday, photos of Broadway Junior at the Knight Theater, and the Jazz Ensemble at UNCC. Wednesday, photos with Nathan Turner at the Mint Museum Symposium, photos of the World Affairs Council gala, and the Mint Museum Merrimint. Thursday, four events, three of which I had to attend twice. So, seven events, kind of. BRAKES golf tourney in Concord, Thompson gala luncheon, one event at Bechtler Museum, and- wait for it- meet and greet photos for Neil defreakinGrasse Tyson at Ovens Auditorium. After which, Mr. Tyson asked, "Can I get a photo with you?" Yes, it happened. Friday, photos and video at a Carolina Business Review taping, Buckeye Lane recording session at Old House Studio, Alabama Shakes and the awesomeness that is Temperance League at the CMCU Ampitheater, and Its Snakes at the Station.

Here's to life, and to stories between us, wherever you are, and where we are going. To the Cosmos, and beyond. See you on the road.

Today's Report On Recent Events

Monday and Tuesday, finished work on a video for Rosedale Plantation, one video shoot, and went to Greensboro to photograph Rhiannon Giddens' hometown show. Wednesday, photos of Mayor Roberts and other local business notables wearing superhero capes, as part of the Mayor's Youth Employment conference. Then went to the Comedy Zone for a Tangents Magazine meeting, where they bought the back page for the next four issues. This is really happening. Look for the new issue on May 15th, and send us your submissions for upcoming issues. Then did photos of the Fathers Of The Year preview party, Milk Carton Kids at the McGlohon Theater, Eric Goulden(the legendary Wreckless Eric) at the Double Door Inn, and then ended the day by stopping at Thirsty Beaver, where members of Mumford & Sons were playing pool. Today's Events

Safe Travels Merle

In September of 2003, I drove to Alexandria, VA to take photos of Merle Haggard for a microphone company. When I got to the venue, his tour manager said, “Oh, we stopped using that mic. It kept not working.” But Haggard and his folks were very gracious, and let me stage the photo of Merle and the non-working microphone before the show. As I was setting up, Merle Haggard stood on stage and played air guitar in some of my photos, unsure of what to do without his guitar. I've never published those photos, but I treasure that experience.

Safe travels, Merle, from that kid at the show that came to take a photo of you. And thank you.

Update On Museum Show, And Other Upcoming Projects

First, the sad news. Yes, my show at the Charlotte Museum Of History is now done, and has not been moved (so far) to the second floor. I'll update you as news comes in.

Happier news- I'll be Dennis Frost's internet radio show on Wednesday, April 6th at 7pm. Tune in, and turn on.

Other happier news- I'll be doing a one-day exhibition of my photos of the local music scene during the 1990s on September 24th, in South End. This will be a big multi-media event. I just finished going through a collection of one set of archives from this era, and will working on scanning and printing more local band photos through the summer. I really want a lot of my photos to focus on the local musicians that made up the scene during that time. Any requests that you'd like to see in this show? Email me.

And happier PS- we'll be doing a release party on May 14th for the return of Tangents Magazine. More on this soon, too.

Time to walk away from my sea of archives, and hit the road to talk some new photos. See you there.
