Rick Reil And Grip Weeds Interview With Plastic EP

Rick Reil is not only one of the leaders of the badass Grip Weeds, he was also the drummer from 2010 of 2013 for a remarkable dream called the Left Banke. I documented as much of that dream as I could.

It's time that Rick and I got caught up to present day, with the help of Plastic EP.
Enjoy.

RIP Lou Christie

A couple of of years ago, I came home and found a message on my answering machine. "Hi Daniel, its Lou Christie. I want to talk to you about helping me with some things." He and Marg Finn had been working on a remarkable autobiography, and he wanted to see if I could help him land a book deal.

All these years later, Lou dreamed big. He had continued to write and record, and regularly hosted an online radio show. Talking to him on the phone was a lot of fun. Not only was it Lou Christie, he talked like someone who had lived in New York his entire life, which he had. No matter how long I live in North Carolina, if I hear the voice of a New Yorker, I fell like I'm home again.
We nearly got close to a book deal a couple of times, before the industry took a turn. All the while, Lou kept re-writing the book. When we last spoke a few months ago, I had found a publisher that I, and others thought would be perfect, but one that would only work with literary agents. I gave him the info on who to contact, and how to do so. I had been meaning to call him for the past several weeks to see how he was doing.
Safe travels, Lou. I'd known you through song my entire life, but it was great to know you in the past few years. I really wish that I had gotten to see you in person, and that I had gotten you that elusive book deal. It's a great book, and I will keep working to see if I can find a way to have your story told.
Until the next high note, Lou, see you in the stars.
