How are you? My thanks to all of you for making 2017 my best year yet for photography work. There is simply too much to tell you about, but I’ll try to hit some of the highlights.
Thank you to everyone that came out for my photo show, The Place To Be, at Spirit Square last year. The response, from opening night, to coverage in the Charlotte Observer, CharlotteFive and several other outlets, was just amazing. So much so, that the Blumenthal has asked me to do it again. Look for a show at Spirit Square opening at the beginning of August, and closing at the end of November, with a lot of photos that the public has never seen before. Stay tuned for more news on this.
Last year saw an increase in photographing galas, luncheons, private events, and more. Much more. Work with The Red Shoes touring company, which saw my work with them placed in the Wall Street Journal, and many other publications. Numerous theater productions with the Blumenthal Performing Arts, UNCC, and others. Recent shoots with this include photos with Leslie Odom Jr. of Hamilton, William Ivey Long tribute (directed by Charles Wright), the Blumey Awards, and many more. I’ve also continued photographing events for Southpark Magazine, Charlotte Magazine, Olivia Fortson, and many others.
With all of that going on, I still hit the road for various shoots, from New York, to Nex Mexico, Tennesee, Georgia, and more. Recent shoots include wotk with Time Sawyer, Part Time Blues Band, Mannish Boys, Jamie Laval, Carolina Gator Gumbo (check out their new album, which I photographed), Rob McHale (check out his new album, which I photographed the back cover). I also hit the road to see some of the acts that I’ve known for a long time, including Wilco, the Avett Brothers, and more. Five of my photos were featured in the recent Avett Brothers documentary. The old pics looked good on the big screen!
Thank you all for the great response to the third and final edition of the Double Door Inn, and the Double Door reunion show last December. We will be doing that show again, down the road. I’ll be working on some more books this year, as well as recent interviews with Matthew Fisher of Procol Harum, Rhiannon Giddens, Ann Moses, and more. Check these out on my blog, danielcoston.blogspot.com. You can also read a new interview with myself, done by my old friend Gideon Smith, here-
