John Cohen was, and will always be hugely influential in my work. His photos, his films, his travels. He, Walker Evans, Robert Frank and others laid the path of discovery through photography and travel that many of us, myself included are still trying to catch up to.
I first met John Cohen in 2003, in an exhibition of his work in Greensboro. I introduced himself, and told him that I was trying to do now what he had done back then. He sighed, and said, "Good luck, man". There was more honesty in that statement than anyone I've ever discussed the subject with. And again, as the years go on I continue to appreciate the candor in that answer.
Thank you, John,
