The Cyrkle's New Single, We Thought We Could Fly

About a year ago, I was in my office searching for a Carter Family recording. Instead, I found Andrew Sandoval's Happy To Be Here, a great CD that I highly recommend. Listening that night to the song, "He Can Fly", featuring the vocals of Tom Dawes, the late Cyrkle bassist and all-around harmony hound, a crazy idea popped in my head.

I sent the song to Don Dannemann and asked him for his thoughts, without telling him who was singing the harmony parts. Don liked the song, and then I revealed why I'd sent it to him. Don and Tom had been talking about forming a new band shortly before Tom left this earth all too soon in 2007. Now, Don had the chance to sing with Tom again.

After Andrew graciously agreed to send along the tracks to the song, Don went to work, and created a new song with Tom's vocals that tells the story of his friendship with Tom. The song is now available on Youtube, complete with music video, and on Apple Music.

Go see the Cyrkle this weekend in Michigan, and see Don at The Fest on Sunday. And stay tuned for the Cyrkle's new studio album, which is coming soon.

Thank you Andrew, Don, to video editor Alan Beavers, and to Tom Dawes. From wayward dreams, come new ideas and sounds. See you there, and see you on the road.
