Some stories have stories behind them. There definitely is one behind my latest Goldmine feature.
Lyons & Clark's 1976 album was one of the records that my wife brought into our relationship. Its jazz-harmony-pop mix, and insane credit list made it unlike any other record of its era. I always wanted to know the story behind it.
I reached out to Deborah Lyons several years ago about an interview, but the timing wasn't right. One day last month, the Lyons & Clark album showed up in my Youtube feed, and I took it as a sign. I reached out to Deb again, and she quickly responded. We tentatively planned to talk that weekend.
A few days later, Deb wrote me to say that Pam Clark had just passed away. I quickly changed the piece into.a planned two-parter, one of which would honor Pam. Deb and I then agreed to talk when I returned home the following week.
The next two weeks quickly turned into, I'll talk to you when I get out of the hospital, and then when I am out of the hospital again.
This interview was done the day after I got out of the hospital, and then edited the following day. It took everything I had to feel like myself again, but I would not give up the story, or the me that I had been missing.
So here it is, at last. The story of Lyons & Clark. A journey covering fifty years, twenty-six years since I first heard the album, and a very long few weeks. Thankfully, I am here to share it with you.
Spread the word, and enjoy.
