Interview With Me On The Vinyl Professor Podast

This was a fantastic interview that I did with Peter Maurin on his Vinyl Professor podcast, covering my recent work with Chad & Jeremy, and other recent projects.

I love the idea that I'm continuing the work of Batman.

RIP Duncan Sheik

In April of 2001, they held Center Cityfest in a series of empty lots along Morehead Street. I marvel now at how free it was of rules, or convention.

Duncan Sheik was set to play in the early afternoon. A publicist passed word through other photographers that Gwenneth Paltrow, who was in town filming Shallow Hal, was also at the festival, and did not want to be photographed. Which meant that we all now knew that she was there, and they had just shown the red cape to us. Game on.
Sure enough, sitting cross legged behind the monitors, Gwenneth appeared alongside the stage during Duncan's set. I found a place where I could sneak photos of Gwenneth singing along to Duncan's cover of Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees".
One of my photos of Duncan from that show later appeared in his Best-Of compilation, Brighter/Later. When I told Duncan's manager that the photo came from that day, the reply came back, "Duncan says, Wow! That was a weird show."
Some seem to linger on this earth for ages. Others pass through too quickly, leaving us wishing that our conversation could have continued.
Safe travels, Duncan.

Events This Week

Here's the big itinerary for the following week.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30th at 7pm, I'll be hosting a screening of Mark Lewisohn's Evolver 62 documentary, about the Beatles in 1962. I'll be leading a chat with the always fabulous Lindsay Planer after the film. This is Tosco Music's preview event for-
Fabfest! Happening October 2nd at Knight Theater, and then our big free all-day festival at the Parr Center at CPCC from 10am to 5pm on October 3rd. Our special guest this year is Gavin Pring of the Fab Four, who will be doing a special George Harrison set at 3pm. I'll be hosting authors Robert Rodriguez, Sean Galliard and Anthony Robustelli, taking all the photos, and just running non-stop. I will also be selling my books at the author's tables.
After all of that, at 6pm that night (October 3rd), I will be photographing the American Cancer Society gala at the Westin Hotel. This year's gala has a blues bar theme, which I worked with the Society in honoring the legacy that will always be . I was in the middle of working with the gala on this when they pulled a cancer mass out of my kidney, so being here for this year's gala will take on extra meaning. I will be exhibiting many photos from the Double Door, and of blues and R&B legends, the first time I've exhibited my photos in town in over a year.
I'm also photographing a whole lot of galas, golf tourneys and luncheons between now and then. Say hello in there, hello.
Life is happening. See you there, and see you on the road.

Sixty-three years ago today, released their first single, "Yesterday's Gone."

Today, Chad & Jeremy released their first new single in over forty years. "When All Is Said And Done" is the first of many songs that myself and Doug Williams pulled from Chad's hard drives. Enjoy, and there's many more to come.
Here's to you, Jeremy, and to you, Chad. Toasting you from down here, ol' bean.

Something About The Beatles With Don Dannemann

2026, the year of wild weirdness continues.

I've been following Something About The Beatles, a fantastic podcast by Robert Rodriguez for several years. This weekend, he released a fantastic interview with Don Dannemann of the Cyrkle, where I'm namechecked several times.
Robert Rodriguez will also be one of our guest authors at Fabfest, happening in Charlotte on October 2nd and 3rd. Robert, we have a lot to discuss.
Enjoy, and see you at Fabfest.
