I'll be part of a discussion with the Charlotte Museum Of History on April 8th at noon, on the Double Door, and other music venues that we miss.

I'm Doing A Pop Up Event On October 24th!

For five years, I lived on Pinecrest Avenue, near Plaza-Midwood. I wasn't there very often, but I have a lot of fond memories of those times. On October 24th, I'll be returning to Pinecrest Avenue, as Stephanie Chesson and I will be hosting a pop-up show at her studio on 1243 Pinecrest Avenue.

Both of us will be selling prints, books, and other items. This will also double as an official release party for the Last Days Of The Double Door Inn book, which I recently released. If there are prints of any subject that you'd like to purchase, please let Stephanie and myself know, and we will have it ready for you. There's lots of space at Stephanie's studio, and if the weather holds up, we will set up outside for your socially distancing pleasure.

Even if you don't need to buy anything, come by and say hello. We've missed you. Spread the word, and hope to see you again soon.

The News From Here

 Here's a few things that are coming up for me-

1. Thursday night at 8pm ET, I'll be interviewed by Australia's own Plastic EP, talking and updating you all on a variety of subjects. Stop by Daniel Sam's FB page, or my own. 

2. On October 24th, I'll be doing a pop-up event with Stephanie Chesson, at her studio near Plaza-Midwood. Lots of cool items for sale. Event page coming soon. 

3. On December 4th, I'll be giving a talk at the Earl Scruggs Center on North Carolina music during the 1960s. Come by and say hello.

4. My North Carolina Musicians photo show will be returning in February of 2021, as it travels to the Surry Country arts center for a new exhibition. More news on this soon, as well.

Trying To Compile A List Of Upcoming Events

Hello all. I'm trying to compile a list of upcoming events over the next few months. It's a challenging time to do this, yes. If you know of any benefits, non-profit events, or gatherings, please let know. If you know of any social events that (hopefully) will happen in the coming months, please let me know, as well.

Photographing the Goodyear Arts' Joyride event last weekend felt like a momentary return to a life I once knew, and while the world had been changed, there are still many organizations that do a lot for our community, and I hope that I can continue to help in some way with supporting them.

Two Big Events This Week

Two things coming up this week. I'll be teaching a class on photographing live music at the Earl Scruggs Center on Thursday evening, Dec. 12th. I'll then be hosting the annual Double Door Inn reunion show at the Neighborhood Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 15th. Tell your friends and family that you love them, see you there, and see you on the road.

My Upcoming Classes And Events

My upcoming photography class, and upcoming shows I'm promoting. Spread the word.

December 12th- I'll be teaching a class at the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby about taking photos at concerts. We meet at the Scruggs Center, and then visit some of the local hotspots to take photos.

December 15th- Double Door Anniersary and Reunion show. Neighborhood Theatre. Lenny Federal Band, Monday Night Allstars, and Crisis. 6pm doors, 7pm Rock. Tickets available now online, or at the door.

December 28th- Winston-Salem! Phil Lee and the Mannish Boys are teaming up for the holidays to rock your town. Heyday Guitars will attempt to contain all of this awesomeness. 7pm doors, 7:30pm Rock.

December 31st- Charlotte! You wanted the best New Year's Eve show? Tipsy Burro is giving you the best! Phil Lee and the Mannish Boys! Together! More iinfo soon. 2020 needs to party, so let's party.

January 3rd, 2020. The roaring Twenties are back! Maya Beth Atkins and Gigi Dover are teaming up for a night that'll show the rest of the decade how Rock gets done. More info soon.

February, 2020. It's Snakes! Houston Brothers! Smokey Joe's! Yeah! More info coming, because you need to prepare for this.

The Next Few Days

Tonight and Friday, I'll be photographing the Joedance film festival, as well as photographing the Aqualads/Modern Primitives show at Smokey Joe's on Friday. Saturday, I'll be photographing the Reevestock festival in Elkin, NC, but I will be at Joedance in both spirit and screen, as the Double Door Inn doc is showing that night. Shows This Week

Two great shows coming up this week. Wednesday, Maya Beth Atkins returns to the Evening Muse. Electric Mud opens the show at 7:30pm. On Friday, the Aqualads return to Smokey Joe's for a night of rock and surf on some familiar turf. Modern Primitives open the show. 9pm doors, 10pm rock. See you there, see you at Joedance, see you at Reevestock, and see you in all the familiar places, and see you on the road.

Upcoming Shows That You Should Check Out

So, what cool shows are coming up? Let's start with the ones I put together.

December 16th- Double Door Inn Reunion, Neighborhood Theatre. Monday Night All Stars, Lenny Federal Band, and Randy Franklin & The Sardines. Doors at 6pm, show at 7pm, it is, and will always be $10, in advance, or at the door.

December 29th- I didn't book the show, but the Mannish Boys are opening for Hardcore Lounge, and this is going to be a cool show. Almost as cool as....

January 5th- Mannish Boys, and It's Snakes, at Smokey Joe's. You want the garage? You got the garage. $5 will set your mind and backside free.

January 9th- Maya Beth Atkins, playing at the Evening Muse at 8pm with a full band of freaking awesome local musicians, along with Caroline Keller.

February 2nd- The Decades Of Rock, Neighborhood Theatre. Randy Franklin & The Sardines, and the Mannish Boys take you through the different decades of Rock & Roll. On Groundhog Day, no less. Come early, party until late.

Still there'll be more. Spread the word, and see you on the road.

My Upcoming Events

Hello all. Here’s the info on my upcoming talk, and shows.

First, I’ll be speaking at Arcana in Durham on July 15th, talking about my photos of the Triangle scene, and how those times influenced my photography career. Music at 8:30, and the trouble (meaning me) starts at 9:30pm.

In early August, I’ll be opening a brand new show of photos at the Knight Gallery at Spirit Square. “When The Legends Come To Town” is a collection of the legendary musicians that I have photographed in Charlotte over the last 23 years. Over 100 photos in this show, and all of them have never been exhibited, and in some cases, never before printed. The show goes up on the walls starting on August 5th, and will be there until the end of October. My official opening will be on August 23rd, as part of the uptown Gallery Crawl.

And proving that I have no idea when to stop, Petra’s has asked me to exihibit in their gallery space from last July, until the end of August. “Your Face Sings It All” is a completely different show than the Knight Gallery show, and is a collection of portraits of musicians that I have photographed over the years. There are photos of local musicians, and others that I think you will recognize. This is a show that I have wanted to do for some time, and I look forward to having you all see these works. The show opens the week of July 23rd.
